Hip injury in Adolescent settles for £250k

Eoin Kearney recovered substantial damages on behalf of a client who received negligent treatment for a slipped upper femoral epiphysis (SUFE). Following multiple attendances at hospital across 7 months with a previous history of some joint pains, a previous assessment for possible juvenile arthritis and hip and thigh pain, our client was eventually diagnosed with severe SUFE and underwent surgery.

Following discharge from hospital our client believed that there was a delay in her care which led to her developing a worsening condition. This led to her contacting our office, and Eoin went about investigating the issues around her medical care. A multitude of medical experts were engaged by us in this case given that her injuries and the negligence crossed over several different medical specialities. Our independent medical experts found that there was an unacceptable delay in investigating our client’s symptoms which resulted in a delay in diagnosing SUFE and her outcome being made worse as a result.

This matter involved six defendants as our independent medical experts opined that there was negligence involved in our client’s care across different health institutions. Despite the complexity involved in cases with such a large number of defendants, settlement negotiations took place and our client received compensation of £250,000.

Our client was thrilled with the outcome which included provision for future care needs due to her condition as a result of the hip injuries she suffered.
